Waratah Train
Downer Rail manufactured, delivered and now maintains 626 latest generation suburban double-deck EMUs for Sydney Trains via a $3.6 billion PPP. The first Waratah train entered passenger service in July 2011 and the final train in May 2014. The Waratah trains make up about half of the Sydney suburban fleet.
Transport Engineering played a major role in the delivery of the Waratah Trains including the fulfillment of various senior engineering leadership positions. We provided an onsite team to manage all aspects of Systems Engineering per ISO 15288 from Contract Award until Final Completion. We managed the design and delivery of the crew cab training simulators. We performed the engineering safety management per EN50126, apportioned RAMS targets, and allocated SIL levels to all safety critical systems.
